The Application Process

To apply for membership please read and complete a membership application form which can be downloaded using the link below.

Take note of the additional information and the references that are required. These are detailed in the second part of the form.

Submit your application form and supporting documents either electronically by email to sec@scmshq.org, by post to the SCMS at our Southampton, UK address.

Once received, your application will receive an initial review by the SCMS CEO, commensurate with the level of membership you are requesting.

If your application is considered satisfactory by the CEO it will then be passed on to the Membership Committee. Your references, work history and qualifications will be reviewed.

Where any further information or references are required, you will be advised by the Society.

If successful you will be informed and provided with an invoice to enable you to pay the relevant membership fee.  This can be done on-line using the website subscriptions page.  Membership of the SCMS also provides eligibility to be listed on the FEMAS website (Federation of European Maritime Associations of Surveyors and Consultants), for an additional fee, if this is of interest to you.

On receipt of the membership fee, you will receive your Membership Certificate via post. Your details will then be added to the Society’s website and, if you have paid the additional fee, also to the FEMAS site (www.femas.org).

In the event your application is unsuccessful you will be informed and advised why your application was denied.  Advice may be given on what actions are required for a successful application in the future.
