Who we are

Established in 1920, the Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ship Surveyors (SCMS) is a respected organisation of experienced marine professionals.

We offer a wide range of technical services, now including fishing vessel expertise.

The SCMS is a not-for-profit organisation. We aim to provide value for money with all our services. Any profit that is made is reinvested back into the organisation to ensure that we maintain the infrastructure, training and staff to support and improve our quality services. The SCMS strive to keep profits down to guarantee that our customers receive excellence at the lowest cost.

What we do

We are an MCA appointed Certifying Authority, providing comprehensive marine technical services through our experienced examiners. We specialise in MCA coding for small craft and fishing vessels under 24 meters, offering surveys and guidance.

Our network of international surveyors are available to conduct Small Vessel and Fishing Vessel surveys, and to guide owners through the compliance process.
